Neighborhood Co-op is seeking to hire a creative and imaginative Graphic Designer to maintain social media accounts, help create eye-catching materials, develop in-store signage, and other print materials that support the brand. MUST proficient in Adobe software, mainly Adobe Illustrator, InDesign; able to work on Mac computers. Fast-paced environment and able to work independently. Must have a portfolio, either via a link or samples during the interview.

Our Co-op rocks! Working at the Co-op is not like working most other places. Our staff members are the “first line” of our brand to the public. They, more than a logo or a product line, represent who we are and what we are about. That is why all our applicants go through a rigorous process so that the Co-op and the applicant know that it's a match. Before we get into that, here's some info about us and our workplace.
About the store
The co-op operates a 12,000 square foot store with annual sales of approximately $5 million and a staff of 40-50. We are about two things: cultivating community and providing meaningful goods and services. Our success is achieved through a lot of business visioning and systems development. It basically works like this: goals are set by the board of directors, management defines how they will achieve those goals and we all work together to get there. This collaboration and excellent internal customer service makes for an intelligent and lively workplace.
We consistently rank in the top quartile among food co-ops in staff satisfaction, which is reflected in our low turn-over rate.
We strive for a culture of gratitude and encourage direct communication as a way to resolve conflict. Our managers practice a servant leadership style that creates an open workplace. We work hard to be as transparent as possible, taking feedback on decisions that affect our employees and giving them an outlet to share their ideas on how to make the Co-op better.
Our tag line is We Know Good Food and to deliver on that, we put a lot of effort into training our staff about food, cooperatives, leadership, finances, and, most especially, good service. With the help of Zingtrain and other co-ops, we created a system called the Training Passport to help us achieve success. To graduate out of their trial period, each employee must complete all the modules of this training.
We feel it is important that everyone, from an entry-level cashier or cook to our team of managers, have some level of understanding of all the aspects of our business. This includes financial transparency. We do this so that we can all work together to make the Co-op and our community better. One of the ways we do this is through Open Book Management or OBM for short. OBM is how we empower all of our employees to achieve and share in our success. Through playing the game and meeting goals, everyone can participate in running the business and when we succeed we reward the participants.
